The Las Vegas Strip has always been home to a number of tourist scams. Some of the more popular scams are monks selling beads, timeshare sellers and cd sellers. As of late. the most infuriating is that of the showgirls scams on the Las Vegas Strip.
Showgirl Scams On the Las Vegas Strip
There have always been costume characters on the Las Vegas Strip. If you have ever visited you have seen naughty cops, Disney characters, Star Wars characters, Hangover and even showgirls. You used to be able to get a photo done with them for a few dollars tip and all was good. Not all of the street performers are scammers.
The new breed of street performers especially the showgirls are aggressive, threatening and try to bully large amounts of money out of unsuspecting tourists. They often work in pairs and try to corner men and then bully their way into getting a photo taken. Once the photo is taken they will begin demanding upwards of $20 or more, which is ludicrous for a photo.
You will find most of the showgirls on the Las Vegas Strip on the sidewalks between Planet Hollywood and The Linq. They used to be out in from of the MGM Grand but that area has been cleaned up since they tore down the old shopping plaza by Harmon. They also used to be in front of New York and The Park but we didn’t see them on our last view trips. The CVS in front of the Aria still has a lot of trip package hustlers but that is all we seen.
Tips for Dealing with Aggressive Showgirls on the Las Vegas Strip
- Do not even acknowledge their existence. Just walk past them.
- Do not try to sneak a photo unless you are looking for a confrontation or be willing to pay up.
- Do not allow yourself to get cornered. Simply walk away from the situation.
- You do not owe them money and don’t have to give them money. They will try to shove a vemo pos machine on you in an attempt to bully you into paying. Walk away.
